FAQ on insurances
What is a deductible? The amount you pay for a covered health service (visit, imaging, medications, etc) before your insurance starts to pay.
What is a copay? A fixed amount for a covered service after you have met/ paid your deductible.
What is co insurance? The percentage of cost of covered service you pay after you have met/ paid your deductible until you meet the max out of pocket for the year.
What is a referral? A written order from the primary care doctor for you to see a specialist. Check with your insurance if referrals are necessary.
What is a prior authorization? A health plan cost-control process. This is where the insurance (not the treating doctor) approves a medication or service.
